Progressive Surface builds integrated surface treatment equipment for a wide variety of customers and applications. These videos provide demonstrations of some of our advanced solutions for thermal spraying, water jet stripping, shot peening, and abrasive grit blasting applications.
Water jet Stripping (Coating Removal)
Demonstrates a variety of Progressive Surface waterjet cleaning robotic systems stripping thermal spray coatings from aircraft engine components using ultra high pressure water jets.
Heavy Equipment Overhaul Crankshaft Coating by HVOF
Automated cell for large, heavy, hard-to-handle components. The lathe shuttle enables the component to be loaded only once into the part manipulation lathe for the grit blast followed by HVOF surface treatment processes. The unique nozzle and torch oscillator manipulates the tip of each device to ensure constant standoff and direct impingement over the entire throw of each pin being targeted. Standoff is adjustable and automatically measured by the system prior to running an automatic cycle. System can support two lathe shuttles to allow for the loading, unloading, grit blasting or thermal spraying of two parts simultaneously.
Diesel Engine Cylinder Head Shot Peen
Automated gantry system for cylinder head peening designed and manufactured by Progressive Surface. The system offloads from an infeed conveyor to an automated hole plug station then to a sensor station and finally to the automated peening cabinet. The cabinet has integral part masking. When the peening cycle is complete, the gantry passes the head back to the sensing station then to the automated plug extraction station before returning the component to the conveyor.
Rotary Lance Shot Peening Drive
Shows the latest Progressive Surface servo-controlled rotating lance drive mounted on a gantry robot shot peening angled slots on a compressor fan hub.
Articulated Arm Robot Peening of Aircraft Landing Gear
A Fanuc Arm Robot is integrated with part manipulation to peen critical surface on a variety of aircraft landing gear components. Long venturi nozzles are used to cover large line-of-site surfaces. A rotating lance peens the interiors of bores up to 124" in length. A rotary lance drive is used to peen smaller holes. A manual peening station is offered for touch-up.
Gantry Robot Peening of Aircraft Engine Components
A Gantry Robot is integrated with part manipulation to peen critical surfaces on a variety of aircraft engine components. Venturi nozzles are used to cover large line-of-site surfaces. A rotating lance peens dovetails on fan disks. A 0.090" diameter lance is used to peen oil holes on shafts. The machine automatically shifts between three different media sizes. The shaded Almen strip method is used to determine Intensity for small lances.
Aircraft Components Shot Peen
Articulated arm robotic shot peening of aircraft structural components. Short venturi nozzles and rotating lances are used to cover all critical surfaces, holes and bores.
Automotive Head and Block Cleaning
Shows a Progressive Surface robotic abrasive grit blasting process for cleaning blocks and heads after casting using plastic blast media.
Grit Blasting & Thermal Spray Coating Bushings
Grit blasting and thermal spray coating of bushings
Gantry Robot Auto Load System for Laser Cutter
Demonstrates a Progressive Surface gantry robotic load system for handling sheet metal stock and removing parts from a custom laser-cutting cell used for cutting complex geometric shapes.
Continuous Rotary Grit Blasting Machine
Demonstrates a unique Progressive Surface abrasive grit blasting machine for cleaning a variety of small shaped parts using any style of grit blast media and without complex fixturing.
100HE™ plasma thermal spray torch operating in high velocity mode
Shows the Progressive Surface 100HE™ plasma torch operating in high velocity mode with particle velocities in the HVOF range.
HVOF Coating of Landing Gears
A Progressive Surface robotic HVOF coating cell for thermal spraying carbide coatings on a variety of aircraft landing gear components, including an integrated temperature monitor to ensure parts do not exceed specified temperatures.
