Dual Robot Grit Blast

Share

This system is designed to grit blast aero turbine engine vanes and blades prior to a coating operation. The design of the system and gripping tool enables the mechanism to remain outside the harsh process environment.  Parts are nested into easily replaceable load drawers that enable one draw to be loaded by the operator while the other is in the process position for gripping by a Motoman MH24 arm robot.  Inside the blast cabinet, a second Motoman robot (MH5S XP) manipulates a direct pressure blast nozzle to target all key surfaces. When finished, the part is blown down with compressed air to eliminate carry-out of the fine Aluminum Oxide media and the part is returned to the holding drawer.
