This robotic system is designed to apply spray coatings using a 9MB Plasma torch, DJ HVOF torch or Tafa 9000 arc spray system. A three axis gun mover manipulates the spray nozzle along the part at the programmed stand-off as it rotates in a large lathe spindle. A well-ventilated, brightly lit acoustical enclosure isolates personnel from harmful noise, light, fumes and dust. The lathe provides rotation up to 75 rpm and can handle parts up to 34" in diameter and up to 25 feet long. Parts can weigh up to 5,000lbs. Integrated into the lathe system is a travelling overspray collection hood that moves in coordination with the spray torch. Progressive’s CITS control system manages thermal spray processes, part programs, operator safety and cabinet ventilation while providing a powerful user interface and data logging. Both the HVOF and Plasma torches are attached to the gun mover for easy switching between processes by the operator. A Fanuc CNC provides machine control and part manipulation. For loading of large parts, the roof is equipped with a retractable ceiling section for access by the customer’s overhead crane.
